Floydada Junior High School Laptop Initiative

FISD became the first junior high campus in Texas to be totally immersed when every student was issued an Apple iBook computer during the fall semester of 2004.

The following year the high school was also immersed, making FISD the only school district in the nation to be completely immersed. All junior high and high school students have Apple iBook computers to use 24/7

Frequent and In-Depth Technology Training

All FISD teachers have Apple iBook computers. Students and staff receive periodic training each semester from Apple Computer in order to maximize the effectiveness of the available technology.

Wireless Campuses

All campuses and administrative buildings were made wireless at the time of the junior high immersion in order that FISD students might have access to cutting edge technology

Wireless Community

Local authorities began to receive calls from people regarding strange blue lights around the district’s buildings. FISD administrators realized that students that did not have internet access at home were sitting outside of schools after hours, utilizing the district's wireless capabilities. The strange blue lights were the Apple logos on the back of the iBook computers. FISD continues to seek new and innovative means to extend the wireless network to all areas of the community.
